Branching Out Pōhutukawa Latched Fun-Fold Christmas Card

My 2025 Christmas cards are officially done!  The Pōhutukawa—often called the New Zealand Christmas Tree—was the perfect inspiration for these festive cards, created using the Branching Out Bundle and Jolly Delivery stamp set.

This design is a simple fun-fold card with a little extra wow thanks to a clever latched opening.  Gently bend back the right edge and the stamped front panel lifts to reveal the card inside — such a fun surprise for the recipient.

So... want to know how I made this gorgeous Christmas card?  Here you go!

  1. Card Base:
Cut Pool Party A4 cardstock at 18 cm x 14.8 cm (7” x 5-3/4”).  Score at 7.5 cm and 15 cm (3” and 6”), then fold along the 7.5 cm (3”) score line.  The shorter front panel aligns with the final score line, leaving the right edge of the card back exposed.
  2. Textured Front Panel:
Cut Pool Party Two-Tone cardstock to 7 cm x 14.3 cm (2-3/4” x 5-1/2”), emboss with the Forever Plaid 3D Embossing Folder, then lightly sand the raised areas to reveal the white core.  Adhere this panel to the front of the card.
  3. Stamped Feature Panel:
Die-cut the 5.3 cm (2-1/8”) stitched frame from Basic White cardstock using the Branching Out Dies.  Stamp the greeting from the Jolly Delivery stamp set and the branch from the Branching Out stamp set in Pecan Pie ink.  Ink the pine needles in Real Red and stamp repeatedly in the same spot to build up that fluffy Pōhutukawa look.  Add a soft wash of Pool Party ink around the edges with a Sponge Dauber, then finish with a Brushed Brass Butterfly.
  4. Latch Panel:
Die-cut the 6.3 cm (2-1/2”) stitched frame from Real Red cardstock and adhere the stamped panel on top.  Place three Stampin’ Dimensionals along the right edge only, then adhere this panel to the exposed card back to create the latch.
  5. Inside Panel:
Cut Basic White cardstock to 7 cm x 14.3 cm (2-3/4” x 5-1/2”).  Stamp the greeting in Pecan Pie ink and add the Pōhutukawa branch in the bottom left corner.  Adhere inside the card.
