Waterside Retreat Double Vision Birthday Card

I’ve been playing with Double Vision Cards again, this time using the Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper. One of my favourite sheets in this pack features a fabulous montage of scenic postcard images, perfect for cutting out and using as backgrounds — ideal for this technique!

Twelve 12" x 12" sheets: 2 each of 6 double-sided designs

The Double Vision technique is a fun paper-crafting technique that creates a shifting, dimensional effect by cutting patterned paper into strips and alternating the height of each strip on the card front. Here’s how I created this birthday card…

  1. Cut one postcard image from the Designer Series Paper and trim it to 4-1/2" wide.
  2. Cut a piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock slightly larger than the postcard image.
  3. Cut the postcard image into nine 1/2" strips.
  4. Adhere the first strip to the left edge of the Misty Moonlight cardstock using Stampin’ Dimensionals, leaving an even border around the top, bottom, and side.
  5. Align the second strip with the first, then adhere it flat with glue or tape.
  6. Continue adhering the remaining strips, alternating between lifting them with Stampin’ Dimensionals and gluing them flat. Finish with the final strip raised on Stampin' Dimensionals.
  7. Adhere the completed Double Vision panel to a Pecan Pie card base, then finish with pretty stamped elements and a flourish of Linen Thread in the bottom-right corner.

This technique is such a clever way to add dimension and movement to your card front, and it works beautifully with scenic or patterned papers like this one. If you’d like to give it a go, grab your favourite Designer Series Paper, coordinating cardstock, and some Stampin’ Dimensionals, and start experimenting — it’s easier than it looks and so much fun!
