Lovely & Beautiful Fun Fold Card

Creativity Abounds Blog Hop

Fun folds are one of my favourite ways to add a little wow to a handmade card — that moment when the card opens and surprises you never gets old!  So I’m thrilled to be joining the Creativity Abounds Design Team this month as we share a brand-new Fun Folds Tutorial Bundle, packed with creative folds, clever techniques, and plenty of inspiration.

Each month, our international team of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators comes together to create a themed collection of tutorials, and this month we’re all about cards that fold, flip, pop, and delight.  Whether you love simple interactive designs or something a little more fancy, you’re going to love what’s inside this bundle, which includes step-by-step instructions for 13 projects!  How can you get your hands on it?  The tutorial is free with a $100+ order from me in February (excluding shipping), or you can purchase it outright for $25.

To celebrate the release, we’re also hosting a Creativity Abounds Blog Hop, filled with bonus fun-fold ideas from the team.  Be sure to hop along — you’ll find so many clever folds to try!

Let’s talk about my project…

The project I contributed to the tutorial bundle features a super-simple but really effective partial die-cutting technique that creates the interactive element of this fun fold.  It looks impressive, but I promise — it’s much easier than it looks!

Lovely & Beautiful Fun Fold Card

Bundles: Simply Beautiful Stamp Set + Simply Beautiful Dies (photopolymer: 166965). Ink: Tuxedo Black Memento (132708), Petal Pink (147108), Calypso Coral (147101), Old Olive (147090). Card/Paper: Petal Pink (147009), Basic White (166781), Basic White Thick (159230), Lovely & Beautiful 12" x 12" Specialty Designer Series Paper (166957). Accessories: Beautifully Adorned Ephemera Pack (166980), Pearlized Faceted Circles (166978). Tools: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (149653), Sponge Daubers (133773), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

I used the stunning Lovely & Beautiful Suite to create this elegant wedding card, perfect for celebrating a special couple.  The card front is layered with the Lovely & Beautiful Specialty Designer Series Paper, stamped floral images from the Simply Beautiful Bundle, and delicate gold foil vellum leaves from the Beautifully Adorned Ephemera Pack.

The colouring for the floral elements is quick and fuss-free — just a soft smudge of Calypso Coral and Old Olive ink applied with a Sponge Dauber.  No complicated colouring here, just a gentle wash of colour that adds softness and elegance.

Did you spot it?  I used the same technique on the vellum leaves too, lightly brushing them with Old Olive ink for a subtle pop of colour while still keeping that beautiful translucent look.

This card has a lovely shape when closed… but it really comes to life when you open it!

I carried the same floral elements through to the inside of the card to really enhance the wow factor — it’s such a lovely surprise when the card is opened and everything ties together beautifully.

Once you know how to create this fun fold, you’ll find yourself using it again and again.  Inside this month’s Fun Folds Tutorial Bundle, you’ll find full step-by-step instructions to create my project — the same fold but with a completely different look, this time featuring the fabulous and popular Cute as a Bug Suite.  I can’t wait for you to try it!

Be sure to hop along with the rest of the Creativity Abounds Design Team — every stop is packed with inspiring fun fold ideas that are sure to spark your creativity.
