Pop-Up Petals Birthday Card

Creativity Abounds Blog Hop

The Creativity Abounds Design Team is back with a brand-new collection of creative inspiration!  Each month, our international group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators comes together to design a themed tutorial bundle, and for December, we’re celebrating Birthdays — because birthday cards are always in style.

This month’s tutorial bundle is filled with 13 exclusive birthday projects, designed to be both beautiful and practical.  Each project includes clear, step-by-step instructions in both metric and imperial measurements, making it easy to craft along.  You can receive the whole bundle FREE with a $100+ order placed with me in December (excluding shipping), or purchase the tutorials outright for $25.

To celebrate the release, the team is also sharing extra birthday inspiration in today’s blog hop.  Be sure to visit each stop along the way — there are so many clever ideas to spark your creativity!

Let’s take a look at my blog hop project…

For my contribution to this month’s tutorial bundle, I used the oh-so-fun Pop-Up Petals Bundle to create a birthday card with a dual pop-up surprise inside.  For today’s blog hop, I thought I’d share a second project using the same playful products — that way you can create two coordinating birthday cards: one from the tutorial bundle and one from today’s post.

Pop-Up Petals Birthday Card

Bundles: Pop-Up Petals Stamp Set + Pop-Up Petals Dies (photopolymer: 168010), Banner Sayings Stamp Set + Three Banner Punch (photopolymer: 167051).  Ink: Lost Lagoon (161678), Petal Pink (147108), Calypso Coral (147101), Granny Apple Green (147095), Peach Pie (163810), Tuxedo Black Memento (132708).  Stampin' Blends: Lost Lagoon (161680), Petal Pink (154893), Calypso Coral (154881), Granny Apple Green (154885).  Card/Paper: Lost Lagoon (133686), Petal Pink (147009), Basic White (166781), Country Woods 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (163393).  Accessories: Linen Thread (104099). Tools: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (149653), Stylish Shapes Dies (159183), Three Banner Punch (167050), Sponge Dauber (133773), Mini Stampin' Dimensionals (144108).

Let’s start with the card front.  Begin with a card base of Lost Lagoon cardstock and adhere a piece of Country Woods Designer Series Paper, cut 5 mm (1/4") smaller, to the front.  Add a 7 cm (2-3/4") stitched square die-cut from Basic White cardstock.

Now for the fun part!  Stamp the vase in Lost Lagoon ink onto Basic White cardstock.  Stamp the butterfly image four times in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colour with Petal Pink, Calypso Coral, and Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Blends.  Stamp the daisy image twice with Tuxedo Black Memento ink, then stamp the petal overlay with Peach Pie ink, and colour the leaves with Granny Apple Green Blends.  Stamp the rose stem twice in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, then stamp the flower image in Petal Pink ink and the leaves in Granny Apple Green ink.  Finish the rose by softly brushing Calypso Coral ink into the centre of the flower using a Sponge Dauber.

Die-cut the vase, two daisies, two rose stems, and four butterflies.  Add the vase, one rose, and three butterflies to the card front using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To finish the card front, stamp the birthday sentiment from the Banner Sayings Bundle in Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Petal Pink cardstock, punch it out, and add it to the card with a Linen Thread bow tucked behind.

You’ll notice you still have one butterfly, one rose stem, and two daisies left over — these are for the inside of the card!

Cut a piece of Basic White cardstock that is 1 cm (1/2") smaller than the inside of the card.  Fold it in half and align the fold with the guides on the largest pop-up die.  Fold the inner panel, pushing the pop-up section forward.  Add adhesive to the back (avoiding the pop-up area) and adhere it to the inside of the card base.  Now you can decorate the pop-up section with the remaining die-cut butterfly, rose, and daisies.

Don’t forget to decorate the pop-up with patterned paper, stamp some more butterflies, and add a sentiment to the inside of the card for a beautifully finished look.
