Kintsugi Inspirations Gift Box With Attached Note Card

The Kintsugi Inspirations Suite from the annual catalogue has been incredibly popular for its Asian-inspired designs and rich, sophisticated palette.  I used this elegant suite to create a sweet gift box inspired by its themes and colours.

Do you know what Kintsugi is?  Kintsugi is a centuries-old Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with lacquer and gold.  Rather than hiding the cracks, this technique highlights them—embracing imperfection and celebrating restoration.  That philosophy is at the heart of the Kintsugi Inspirations Suite, and it was the inspiration for this project.

You can see elements of that idea in the patterned paper I used for the lid of the gift box, with its delicate gold-foil fracture design layered over deep blue.  To carry the gold theme further, I secured the box with Gold 1-1/2" Open Weave Trim.  It was a little wide for this project, so I trimmed it lengthwise for a better fit.

Attached to the lid is a small pocket that holds a matching notecard—just the right size for a short, thoughtful message.

The card front continues the Kintsugi-inspired theme.  The vase is die-cut from Cloud Cover cardstock, stamped with the blossom image using VersaMark, then heat embossed in gold.  The final touch is a “crack” die-cut from Gold Foil, carefully adhered to highlight the restored beauty.
