To create the background, I used the Impressions Abloom stamp set to build a soft, watercolour-style floral wash — but first, let’s chat about this clever two-step stamp set.

What is Two-Step Stamping?  This technique uses two coordinating images to build one fully detailed design.  In the Impressions Abloom set, you’ll find bold background stamps paired with delicate, detailed overlays.

Try this: stamp the base image in a lighter colour like Pretty In Pink, then layer the detail in a darker shade like Strawberry Slush.  Or, for a softer look, stamp the background in a single colour — stamp it off once on scrap paper, then stamp onto your project.  Layer the detail in the same colour at full strength for beautiful tone-on-tone dimension.

For this thank you card, I tried a different twist on two-step stamping.  I stamped the background images onto watercolour paper using Timid Tiger, Strawberry Slush, and Garden Green inks.  Then, I laid the panel on a Silicone Craft Sheet or Glass Mat and spritzed generously with water using a Stampin' Spritzer.  After letting it sit for about a minute (so the colours could bleed and blend), I blotted the excess moisture with a paper towel.  The result?  A dreamy, softened background that let me stamp the detailed images right over the top using the same inks — subtle, layered, and oh-so-pretty!

That floral background became the feature of my centre-easel card, flanked by strips of the fabulous Floral Impressions Designer Series Paper — I just adore this patterned paper!

To finish, I added a few extra stamped and die-cut flowers, then sprinkled on some Strawberry Slush & Pretty In Pink Gems for a final touch of sparkle.
