Unbounded Beauty Z-Fold Slimline Birthday Card

I love slimline cards as their extra height makes them a little more special than regular-sized and regular-shaped greeting cards.  And this birthday slimline card is even more special as it has a lovely cascading z-fold or z-shaped finish...

A slimline card is not a standard greeting card but begins with standard measurements.  Start with a piece of A4 (21 cm x 29.6 cm) or Letter (8-1/2" x 11") cardstock and cut it in half.  Your half piece of cardstock will measure 21 cm x 14.8 cm for half an A4 or 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" for half of a Letter.  This half piece of cardstock is a standard size for folding to create a greeting card.  But what if, instead of folding a landscape piece in half left to right, you turned the cardstock to portrait and then folded it in half left to right?  Congratulations, you have just folded a slimline card!

Now for something a little different.  The same slimline-size finish, but as a tri-fold card with a cascading z-shaped front.

To create this z-fold slimline card, I started with an A4 piece of Petunia Pop cardstock cut at 24 cm x 21 cm and scored in thirds at 8 cm and 16 cm.  I measured 14 cm from the top left corner down the left edge of the cardstock and made a pencil mark.  Then I cut from that pencil mark on an angle to the top of the second scored line (the one I scored at 16 cm).  Fold the card in "half" on the second score line then fold the card front back the other way along the first score line.  Tada!  We just created a z-fold slimline card!

I finished this fun-shaped birthday card using the stunning Unbounded Beauty Suite of products, which has lovely floral images, beautiful words, and fabulous coordinating patterned paper to round out the project.

Now, because a slimline greeting card will not fit a standard-size envelope, I created a custom envelope.  This will make my birthday card extra special and I can personalise the finish to match...

This pocket envelope was created using Summer Splash cardstock, which I then added a flap in the same patterned paper from the Unbounded Beauty Designer Series Paper pack that I used on my birthday card.  How do I hold the envelope flap closed?  I stamped "just for you" on Basic White cardstock in Petunia Pop ink and then die-cut it out with the stitched circle die.  I added a Stampin' Dimensional to the back of the die-cut circle and adhered it to the envelope so that the Stampin' Dimensional sticks to the cardstock with the edge of the circle overlapping the patterned paper flap.  A simple solution but very effective!

Here's a tip... create the main pocket of your custom envelope a little bit wider than the z-fold slimline card so there is ample room.  Then the elements on the front of your special birthday card are not damaged as it is slid in and out.
