Another Mini Egg Carton!

Have you finished your Easter creations?  Not surprisingly, some of mine were made using the Mini Egg Cartons from the Occasions Catalogue.  Now I have a few left over, but that's okay as these cute gift boxes are for more than just Easter eggs.  I wanted to make something to celebrate a friend's recent accomplishment... enter the Mini Egg Carton decorated in black and gold with the Happy Celebrations stamp set and Celebrations Duo embossing folder...

Urban Underground Masculine Birthday

Some people find masculine birthday cards difficult to create, which can sometimes come down to the product we own as we're often drawn to pretty things.  Enter the Urban Underground Suite!  These coordinating products make cards for the boys and men in our lives a cinch with bold, geometric patterns and strong, contrasting colours of Basic Black, Basic Gray, Delightful Dijon Very Vanilla and silver.  Inspired by this fabulous product suite I created a corner-fold or corner-flip birthday card for my hubby...

Urban Underground Corner Fold Masculine Birthday Card

Bundle: Thoughtful Banners Stamp Set + Duet Banner Punch (photopolymer: 141614).  Stamps: Urban District (wood: 143068, clear: 143071).  Ink: Delightful Dijon (138327), Basic Gray Archival (140932), VersaMark (102283).  Card/Paper: Delightful Dijon (138345), Basic Gray (121689), Basic Black (121688), Very Vanilla (106550), Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper (142783).  Accessories: Urban Underground Embellishments (142786), Urban Underground Designer Washi Tape (142787), Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder (109130).  Tools: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (143263), Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies (145372), Build It Framelits Dies (143230), Hexagon Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (143231), Stampin' Trimmer (129722), Heat Tool (129056), Embossing Buddy (103083), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

The wow-factor of this card is the combination of the fancy fold, the product suite coordination and all those textures.  I clear heat-embossed the hexagons from the Urban District stamp set onto a Basic Black card base, more stamped hexagons in Basic Gray on Very Vanilla and then followed through with a large die-cut hexagon focal point, embossed using the Hexagon Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder...

Urban Underground Corner Fold Masculine Birthday Card

... then there's the layers of washi tape from the Urban Underground Designer Washi Tape (check out those the shiny, silver crosses) and finished the front with a brushed silver, hexagon embellishment (those things are so weighty and robust!).

Urban Underground Corner Fold Masculine Birthday Card

I'm loving using these products and you will too!  But I would get them soon as some are on the Retiring Lists and only available while stocks last.

The 2016-2017 Annual Catalogue and 2017 Occasions Catalogue both finish at the end of May and Stampin' Up! are releasing the Retiring Lists for each of the catalogues TOMORROW!  The Retiring Lists tell us what products will be carried over and which ones will be discontinued.  Make sure you're subscribed to my email updates and get the Retiring Lists delivered direct to your Inbox on Tuesday.  Fill in your details at the top right of this page.

Celebrate Your Day!

I was so inspired by the card design for the Celebrate New Baby Cards, I used the Happy Celebrations stamp set and the "celebrate" embossing folder from the Celebrations Duo set to create a masculine birthday card for my brother-in-law...

Happy Celebrations Birthday Card

Stamps: Happy Celebrations (photopolymer: 143012).  Ink: Pacific Point (126951), Delightful Dijon (138327), Smoky Slate (131179), Whisper White Craft (101731).  Card/Paper: Delightful Dijon (138345), Whisper White (106549), Whisper White Thick (140490).  Accessories: Silver Sequin Trim (138399), Classy Designer Buttons (138393), Urban Underground Designer Washi Tape (142787), White Stampin' Emboss Powder (109132).  Tools: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (143263), Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (142760), Stampin' Pierce Mat (126199), Banner Triple Punch (138292), Heat Tool (129056), Embossing Buddy (103083), Glue Dots (103683), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders

So versatile!  Just changing the words, colours and accessories, I was able to do double-duty with this card layout.  Speaking of accessories, I wanted the embellishments to be silver to accentuate the blues and greys on the birthday card, like the shiny, silver washi tape from the Urban Underground Designer Washi Tape, Silver Sequin Trim and, what's that?  A silver button...

Happy Celebrations Birthday Card

Stampin' Up! don't stock silver buttons, so I made my own!  I used the smallest Classy Designer Button, pressed it into a VersaMark stamp set, dipped it into silver embossing powder, then heat set.  Voila!  A silver button!  This is a great technique for changing the colour of buttons you have on hand - you're only limited by your embossing powder collection.

The colour combination on this card is very striking, and perfect for masculine projects, especially the richness of the Pacific Point and Delightful Dijon...

Happy Celebrations Birthday Card

Delightful Dijon is a really lovely colour and I've enjoyed using it over the last two years but, unfortunately, this good thing must come to an end.  Delightful Dijon and the four other 2015-2017 In Colors will be retiring at the end of this Annual Catalogue (31 May 2017).

2015-2017 In Color Collection: Tip Top Taupe, Delightful Dijon, Watermelon Wonder, Mint Macaron, Cucumber Crush

The 2015-2017 In Color Collection will be on the Retiring List, which will be released next week on Tuesday, 11 April.  Make sure you order the stamp pads, ink refills, markers card stock and ribbons TODAY before they go on the Retiring List.  Products on the Retiring List are while supplies last and the In Color products always sell out in the first few days!

Celebrate New Baby Cards

Inspired by the project pictured on the bottom left of page 41 in the Occasions Catalogue, I created this Celebrate New Baby card using the Happy Celebrations stamp set and one of the two Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders...

Happy Celebrations Baby Boy Card

Stamps: Happy Celebrations (photopolymer: 143012).  Ink: Bermuda Bay (131171), Pool Party (126982), Peekaboo Peach (141398), Whisper White Craft (101731).  Card/Paper: Pool Party (124391), Whisper White (106549), Whisper White Thick (140490), Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack (142744).  Accessories: Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim (137910), Sending Love Embellishments (142735), Delicate White Doilies (141701), White Stampin' Emboss Powder (109132).  Tools: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (143263), Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (142760), Stampin' Pierce Mat (126199), Banner Triple Punch (138292), Heat Tool (129056), Embossing Buddy (103083), Glue Dots (103683), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

Happy Celebrations Baby Boy Card

What you may not have noticed about the Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders is that it embosses the words back to front.  This isn't a mistake, that is the back of the card.  These folders were designed to de-emboss the card stock so that the "celebrate" and "happy" are pressed or branded into the card instead of being raised.  What that means is that you can stamp over the top and create voids on your project.  Not only is this a fun technique, but it creates a fabulous contrast and makes the words stand out.  I used the two brushstroke circle images from the Happy Celebrations stamp set to stamp Bermuda Bay, Pool Party and Peekaboo Peach inks over my baby boy card.

Happy Celebrations Stamp Set
Happy Celebrations Photopolymer Stamp Set (143012) - $73.50

I love the versatility of the Happy Celebrations stamp set.  I can imagine using most of the words in this set with the "celebrate" debossing... Celebrate New Baby, Celebrate Your Day, Celebrate New Beginnings, Celebrate Together, Celebrate Good Times!  That means that this card would be great for many occasions, just change the colours to match.

Here's a second card that is identical in layout, but stamped in Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride and Peekaboo Peach inks for a baby girl...

Happy Celebrations Baby Girl Card

Stamps: Happy Celebrations (photopolymer: 143012).  Ink: Calypso Coral (126983), Blushing Bride (131172), Peekaboo Peach (141398), Whisper White Craft (101731).  Card/Paper: Calypso Coral (126392), Whisper White (106549), Whisper White Thick (140490), Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack (142744).  Accessories: Blushing Bride Sequin Trim (138400), Sending Love Embellishments (142735), Delicate White Doilies (141701), White Stampin' Emboss Powder (109132).  Tools: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (143263), Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (142760), Stampin' Pierce Mat (126199), Banner Triple Punch (138292), Heat Tool (129056), Embossing Buddy (103083), Glue Dots (103683), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).

Happy Celebrations Baby Girl Card

I love the impression (or de-impression) that this technique has.  There is a caution though, with this technique, if you press too hard or rock your stamp, then there's a danger that you'll get ink over the inside of your debossed words.  The tip for getting even, consistent stamping without applying too much pressure is to use a Stampin' Pierce Mat under your card stock.

Hogwarts Crazy Cake Birthday Card

Who can guess the colour inspiration for this crazy cake birthday card?  That's right, the four cake layers are each of the Hogwarts Houses!  From the bottom to the top, the Hogwarts house colours are: Hufflepuff in yellow and black, Gryffindor in red and gold, Slytherin in green and silver and Ravenclaw in blue and bronze...

The inspiration for this card?  My daughter asked for a Harry Potter or Hogwarts cake for her birthday last week - do you know how complex and elaborate those cakes can be?  Just Google "Hogwarts Birthday Cake" and see!  Anyway, I found THIS simple design, which became my launch-pad for her Gryffindor/Harry Potter-inspired birthday cake...

Gryffindor/Harry Potter-Inspired Birthday Cake

Which is how this Cake Crazy-stamped birthday card began - the Gryffindor layer on the card matches her cake...

Hogwarts Crazy Cake Birthday Card

Between the cake layers are "it's your birthday" from the Endless Birthday Wishes - my go-to birthday stamp set...

Endless Birthday Wishes Stamp Set
Endless Birthday Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set (140273) - $33.00

My daughter loved her Harry Potter-inspired birthday card and cake and I had a lot of fun creating them both.  The best part?  When she opened her card and I could see the recognition behind her eyes as she identified each of the Hogwarts houses on the card.

I love the way that you can layer the Cake Crazy stamp set to create a fun birthday cake in any colour or theme!  Pairing this stamp set with the Endless Birthday Wishes and I have endless birthday options for cards and gifts.
